The Fimiani Development group bought the old Midway Plaza in 2012 and immediately went to work
renovating the 206,000 square feet prime retail space on Pepperell Parkway. They wanted to completely
change the image of this shopping center, including the name.
Saugahatchee Square is the new name but that was only the beginning. They replaced the entire roof,
repainted the whole building and updated the store fronts with new glass and doors. They refinished the parking
lot, added landscaped islands, and replaced all the lighting for the parking area and around the building.
Before it was bought, the Plaza was about 40% occupied. Now it is 100% occupied! Among the 26 total
retailers at Saugahatchee Square, 15 are new businesses. Last year, they added a 10,000 square-foot
outparcel building which is close to being 100% occupied. Now, the Center is revitalized and a great
addition to Opelika!
